You must visit this temple filled with lucky cats in Tokyo. Temple is called Gotokuji Temple and it's a Buddhist temple located in the Setagaya district of Tokyo. Temple legend states that during the early 17th century there was a cat that helped a samurai lord from a thunderstorm. The cat beckoned him to safety with a waving gesture and that's the reason why you'll see all cat statues have their one paw raised. Temple entrance is free but visitors can purchase Japanese fortunes and cat fingerings in a wide variety of sizes. I bought a cat for 800 yen which is $6 USD and I made a wish and left it in the temple. While you do have the option of bringing it home with you, it is said that if the wish ends up coming true, you must take it back to the same temple and place the cat to give it thanks. So if you decide to buy a fortune which is 100 yen, 75 cents USD and it isn't a good one, you just tie the fortune on the branch of the tree outside to leave your bad luck behind. Otherwise, if it's good, just keep it.
