If you're into art and visit Milan, do not miss this place. This is Pinacoteca di Brera and it houses some of the greatest Italian masterpieces from the 13th to the 20th century. Some of the pieces included in the collection were taken from churches and monasteries that were suppressed when Milan was the capital city of the Kingdom of Italy. These pieces were dedicated to the education of students which is also why it's the home of the Academy of the Fine Arts. The building itself is a masterpiece that dates back to the Baroque period. It opened in 1809 and was built on top of the remains of a 14th century monastery. Inside you'll also find a beautiful library that's free of charge to visit as well as a small botanical garden located outside. They also have a small cafe where you can grab a bite to eat or something to drink.
