Did you know James Beard award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein opened her newest spot on Ocean Drive in late 2025? Welcome to La Canita Beach, a vibrant Cuban-Caribbean restaurant inside Casa Canita, a boutique hotel in the iconic Art Deco district of Miami Beach. La Canita means little sugar cane, but the flavors and portions here, anything but little. This is a place where locals can be tourists in their own hometown. We kick things off with a refreshing Aperol spritz and both truffle mushroom and serrano ham and fig croquetas priced like it was 2001. Then we moved on to the dinner menu with guava ribs and banging fries because guava barbecue should have been in my life much sooner. Next up, arroz con pollo elevated a la plancha. Also a whole de bone crispy snapper because nothing says Caribbean cuisine more than this. Of course, what's a Cuban restaurant without a Cubano? This sandwich glistened like it had been lacquered with clarified butter. No Cuban meal is complete without cafecito and flan. Locals rejoice. Turn on. vacation mode daily at 3 p.m. Get a spritz and say less.
