Ukiyo-e is a traditional genre of Japanese art that portrays the urban lifestyle and culture, especially the pleasure-seeking aspects of the Ido era. Artists created woodblock prints with images of female beauties, kabuki actors, sumo wrestlers, historic and folk tales, travel scenes, landscapes, and even erotica. The word itself means floating worlds where one is meant to live in the moment, detached from all bothers of life. The word also means sorrowful worlds in Buddhism. which means the endless cycle of rebirth, such as living, suffering and dying.
