Wow! A hidden gem we've never heard of before today, Kaizen Shabu in Santa Ana, California. Holy cow, their Tom Yum broth was absolutely delicious. 10 out of 10. Normally, at Shabu spots, I use all the sauces. Here, no sauces needed. The broth was so bold and flavorful, I just kept dipping the prime ribeye back in there. Plus 5,000 points. And Nadia loved her sukiyaki broth with egg, lightly sweet, paired with her Angus beef, and ooh, hit the spot. Plus 1,000 points. And we can't forget the small plates we got. The stir-fried green beans. a classic. Not as crunchy as we're used to, but still good. But the clear winner, their calamari, some of the best we've had, the crispy garlic jalapenos and the breading itself had such a great seasoning and crunch. Plus 5,000 points. We'll be back.
