Today we're at a birthday party. Not just any birthday party, but Garden Art Cafe's birthday party because today they're turning one. And to celebrate, we're painting cakes under their iconic bougainvillea. For the last year, Garden Art Cafe in Weinberg has been a warm and welcoming space for people of all ages to come together and embrace their creative side. This is Aisha. And she, together with her mum, have built something really special. And it's always inspiring to see how much love and passion goes into it. It just makes me so happy to know that there are women around who support the arts, who support community and who support something out of the ordinary. Women need these sort of third spaces where you can come and be at peace and feel safe and be free to be wherever you want to be without being judged. Through Art in the Garden, we've been able to help communities in need. We've been able to donate funds to Palestine. We've had orphanages come through. We've empowered kids in the townships, in the Cape Flats. And I'm so happy that we are living in a time where our kids can grow up freely without being judged. They can go out there and make their mark and not feel like they have to hold back and dim their shine. Because we are now living in a time where you can proudly say, I'm a Muslim and I'm an artist. And I feel like the two can coexist quite peacefully. Today, she brought together a group of women from all walks of life to enjoy this wholesome activity and celebrate the last year. And how cute did these turn out? Every time I visit, I know I'm guaranteed to leave with something absolutely delish and usually something quite cute too. Here's to another year of creative magic and tasty treats at Garden Art Cafe.
