Come with me to the Duomo, Milan's most popular attraction. The Duomo is a massive gothic cathedral that took about six centuries to build and is the largest church in Italy. While the inside is impressive, the real showstopper hands down is the rooftop. The views are incredible and you get to see the gargoyles, sculptures and gothic spires up close. This is an absolute must if you're in Milan, especially if you're into architecture. The price is a little on the high end but in my opinion it's totally worth the ticket price. You get to explore at your own pace and stop as often as you like to take it all in. Things to know before you go: there are about 250 steps to get to the rooftop which you can access on foot or by elevator. Elevator access is only to go up and you will have to physically walk down the stairs. There are no restrooms on the rooftop so make sure to go before you head up. The rooftop is not 100% handicap accessible as the elevators can only go up to a certain point and there are uneven surfaces and steps throughout the entire rooftop. You can purchase tickets online or at the door. If you plan to purchase tickets at the door, get there early to avoid the crowds. I arrived an hour before the cathedral opened and the main plaza was practically empty. I was able to get really good pictures and videos of the outside without the masses of people. I lined up to get my ticket around 8:45 a.m. and there was already a short line but it went quick. There are a few different ticket options to choose from. If you choose the option that includes a visit to the inside of the church, start at the rooftop because when you go down the stairs you will end up inside the church.
